COVID-19 associated mucormycosis and COVID-19 vaccination status

Background: Mucormycosis is lethal angio invasive fungal infection affecting mainly the immunocompromised individuals. During second wave of COVID-19 pandemic there was rise in number rhino-orbito-cerebral (ROCM) cases both affected patients and who recovered from infection. This study conducted to know anatomical site extent involvement head neck region vaccinated unvaccinated Methods: A retrospective descriptive between May 2021 November at Bowring lady Curzon hospital, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee medical college research institute, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. 358 with post-covid RTPCR negative rhino-orbital mucormycosis were included study. The demographic data, vaccination status sites collected analysed. Results: 4 (1.11%) fully 2 doses covid vaccine, 18 (5.02%) partially vaccinated, 336 (93.85%) unvaccinated. Majority age group 41-60 years all groups. In group, majority presented stage II/III disease (48.51%; 39.88% respectively) 39 (11.60%) IV ROCM. Conclusions: severity ROCM higher as compared group.
